Geotab Integration Overview

Geotab is a company that provides secure, open-platform technology for fleet management and vehicle telematics. Their solutions help improve fleet productivity, safety, sustainability, and compliance. In conjunction with Geotab, Fleetwise automatically updates the vehicle database and manages bookings as vehicles enter or exit their designated geofences.

Vehicle data integration

Fleetwise PVBS retrieves vehicle data from Geotab every five minutes, including details such as the number plate and odometer readings. This information is then used to update the corresponding vehicle records in PVBS, or to create a new record if the number plate does not match any existing entries.

Geofence events integration

Fleetwise PVBS collects geofence entry and exit events from Geotab every 30 seconds. This data includes important details such as the type of event, the time it occurred, and the vehicle ID. The system utilizes this information to manage bookings effectively: geofence exit events are used to confirm a booking pickup, while geofence entry events indicate a booking drop-off. Additionally, if a vehicle enters or exits a geofence without an associated booking, an unauthorized use alert is sent to the administrator for review.

User Integration

Fleetwise PVBS can automatically sync new users to Geotab as drivers every 10 minutes. This integration includes the user’s name and PVBS username. Depending on the configuration, Geotab can also send a welcome email prompting the user to create a password and log in.

Booking Integration

Fleetwise PVBS can automatically assign a driver to an asset in Geotab when a booking is picked up, and remove that association when the booking is dropped off. This enables Geotab to accurately identify the driver for each trip or event.
